Sixth-plate daguerreotype in leather case of William Emerson (1835-1864), nephew of Ralphy Waldo Emerson and a lawyer in New York state. The photograph was taken ca. 1858 by Charles DeForest Fredericks of New York, N.Y. Enclosed is a note in an unknown hand that identifies the photograph.
